Over 20 Nations to Take Part in the Ongoing Kolkata Book Fair 2023

On January, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will officially open the 46th iteration of the Kolkata Book Fair, better known as the Boi Mela. As Spain is the subject for 2023, Mara José Gálvez Salvador from the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sports and Jose Maria Ridao Domnguez, the ambassador of Spain to India, will be among the dignitaries attending the inauguration.

According to estimates, it is second to the Frankfurt Book Fair in size and attendance and is the world's second-largest book expo. There will be about 900 stalls this year, of which 200 will be devoted to Bengal's well-known tiny magazine genre and 700 to books.

The fair will be open to visitors between January 31 and February 12. The 9th Kolkata Literature Festival's parallel event will run from February 9 to 11 at the SBI Auditorium.

Around 20 countries across the globe will be participating in this year's Boi Mela. Spain is the focal country this year. Appearing as the theme country for the second time, Spain will be represented at the event by authors David Trueba, Eva Baltasar, Luis Garcia Montero, Agustin Fernandez Mayo, Jesus Aguado, Anna Caballe, and Jordi Gracia.

The Book Fair will have representation from the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Japan, France, Cuba, Italy, Australia, and several other Latin American countries. This will be Thailand's first time participating.

At the Book Fair, each major international publishing house will have a separate pavilion, including Harper Collins, Penguin Random House India, Pan Macmillan, Rupa, Bloomsbury, and many others.

On February 4, conversations with authors, writers, and poets from Kolkata and Bangladesh will be held in honor of Bangladesh Day. The Jute Board will support several bio-toilets and kiosks at the exhibition.

Winners of a daily lottery will receive free book gift coupons worth Rs 15,000 per day. This year, there will also be a campaign called "Buy Books and Win a Book Library" accessible. The winners can take home a small library of books for their homes and coupons worth Rs 25,000 to spend on books at the book fair.
